Aston Villa had a really strong finish to the season last year, similar to Newcastle. The Villans started last year with Steven Gerrard at helm, but results weren’t going their way, despite the quality in their squad. Management knew they had to make a change, axed the Liverpool legend, and brought in Spaniard Unai Emery on November 1st, 2022. I really liked the way Villa played under Emery last season. They weren’t just getting good results, they played some impressive brand of football while climbing up the table. They finished 7th in the league, but one would imagine they would have been even higher up had Emery coached the team from the very start.
Aston Villa’s goal for this year would be to break into the top six. Looking at the quality of their squad and the top coach in charge, they are certainly capable of doing that. The Birmingham club made great transfers this summer, in my opinion.
They bought another super quick winger from Bayer Leverkusen in Moussa Diaby. I’m saying “another” because Leon Bailey was also bought from Leverkusen. Anyone who has been watching the Bundesliga in the last two years, knows that Diaby is a top young talent that goes through defenders with ease. I do expect him to make a great impression in the Premier League as well. Anyone of you out there that’s also playing Fantasy football, my top tip for you is to get Diaby on your team. Another good business that Villa did was the addition of Pau Torres, a rock solid defender. And last but definitely not least, the Belgian Youri Tielemans from relegated Leicester, who has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the past couple of years.
