Barcelona won the 2009-10 Spain’s La Liga after another spectacular performance as they trashed Valladoid 4-0 to end a season that will be remembered for Messi’s brilliance. Once again, it was the little Argentine in the role of match winner and best player on the pitch. This victory marked the end of yet another historical season for Barca as they won the League with a record-breaking 99 points! They also scored 98 goals! Real Madrid spent over 250 million euros last summer just to finish second once again, although they must be congratulated for the way they battled till the end collecting a total of 96 points in the process.
Leo Messi won the Pichichi award for most goals scored in the season as he found the net 34 times! Real Madrid is second in that category as well as their striker Gonzalo Higuain had 27 goals to his name. On top all that, Messi is now the winner of the European Golden Boot as he set another record – for most goals scored in a single season in all competitions – 47 goals, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s previous record of 42 goals total back in 2007-8.
