San Jose Sharks take on Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Blackhawks are currently leading the series 1-0, a position that’s absolutely new to them in this year’s postseason as so far they always lost the first game and then came back from behind.
Game 1 of the series ended 2-1 for Blackhawks and Game 2 is once again at San Jose’s HP Pavilion building. Sharks Big Three in the likes of Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton and Dany Heatley all had a really bad performance in the opener and certainly they will have to turn it up in order to defeat such a strong Blackhawks team. Sharks had serious probelms controlling the puck allowing for Hawks transition game to kick in, particularly in the second half.
Hawks goalie Niemi just seems to be getting better and better as the stakes get bigger. He was once again at his best on Sunday posting a career record 44 saves, including what looked to be a sure power-play goal by Ryane Clowe. For the Hawks to continue their winning run, Niemi has to keep on shining.
